Formed in Lager Brokzetel near Aurich in Lower Saxony in April 1941. In May 1941 it was moved to Gotenhafen in Pomerania for preparations. In July 1941 the Abteilung was moved again to Ventspils in Latvia under the Seekommandant Libau. In October 1941 it was moved again to Tallinn in Estonia under Seekommandant Reval. In April 1942 it was moved to the mouth of the Luga under Seekommandant 'R' then in May 1943 it was based on the island of Bolshoy Tyuters. When the Seekommandant 'R' was dissolved in February 1944 it was moved to the control of Seekommandant Estland. In September 1944 the Abteilung was moved from the island of Bolshoy Tyuters to the island of Saaremaa (or Ösel) under the Seekommandant Baltische Inseln. It was employed on Sõrve until November 1944 when it was dissolved.
