Formed in September 1939. Between 1939 & 1940 it was employed in minesweeping & escort duties in the North Sea. With Operation 'Weserübung' it was employed by Kriegsschiffgruppe 11, then used again in the North Sea in the area of Holland. In 1941 the Flotilla was moved to the eastern Baltic for tests with new boats (Minensuchboote Typ 35) around the islands of Saaremaa & Hiiumaa, then shifted to the West and the Atlantic Coast. In February 1942 it participated in the 'Channel Dash' then moved to Norway and employed in escort service along the entire coast. In March 1945 the Flotilla was dissolved and its boats used to replenish the 1. Minensuchflottille, 3. Minensuchflottille & 5. Minensuchflottille.
