Formed in Split in Croatia in September 1943 and subordinate to the Kommandierender Admiral Adria. It was formed after Italy exited the war and German Forces took over areas previously in Italian hands. The area of command ranged from the area north of Kotor (Cattaro) up to  the island of Susak, but excluding the islands of Cres and Lošinj which were controled by the Seekommandant Istrien. In April 1944 the command area was split in two, Seekommandant Norddalmatien and Seekommandant Süddalmatien.
