The Armeeabteilung Hollidt (also known as Gruppe Hollidt, Angriffsgruppe Hollidt, and Alarmgruppe Hollidt) was formed on 23 November 1942 from the XVII. Armeekorps to command the northern flank of Heeresgruppe Don in response to the Soviet offensive that isolated the 6. Armee at Stalingrad.

From 27 December 1942-23 January 1943, the unit was designated Armeegruppe Hollidt. During this period it controlled the following major formations: XXIX. Armeekorps, XXXXVIII. Panzerkorps, XVII. Armeekorps, and Korps Mieth.

The new 6. Armee was formed on 6 March 1943 from Armeeabteilung Hollidt.
