The Armee Ligurien was formed on 31 July 1944 from Armeeabteilung von Zangen. The mixed German-Italian formation was responsible for guarding the western flank of Heeresgruppe C by providing coastal defenses from the area of La Spezia northwestward past Genoa to the Franco-Italian border. From 30 October 1944-11 February 1945, it was designated Armeegruppe Ligurien with the 14. Armee subordinated to its command. It reverted to the designation Armee Ligurien on 11 February 1945 and surrendered on 2 May 1945.
