On 15 May 1942 the Beauftragter für das Diensthundewesen was formed within the Persönlicher Stab RFSS to coordinate and train in the use of dogs in the Waffen-SS. In June it was redesignated the Lehr- und Versuchsabteilung für das Diensthundewesen der Waffen-SS and was stationed at the concentration camp Oranienburg.
