The Armored Regiment was formed 25 June 1941 when the Armored Battalion was upgraded to a regiment. The regiment spends 1942 and most of 1943 in training and waiting for replacements of their outdated tanks to be delivered from Germany.
It was upgraded to the Armored Brigade 1 Oct 1943.
