Zerstörer: Luftwaffe Fighter Bombers and Destroyers Volume Two 1941-1945
John J. Vasco
review-4

This is the second of two volumes dealing with the Zerstörer, two-engined fighter bomber and destroyer, units of the Luftwaffe and it covers the period from 1941 until the end of the war.

This book is a part of the "Luftwaffe Colours" series and like the others in the series it contains a large number of high quality photos (both previously published and new ones), mainly in b/w but some in colour, as well as colour illustrations of a number of aircraft:
Messerschmitt Bf 110 D, 2N+EM, of 7./ZG 76
Messerschmitt Bf 110 E, 3U+AM, of 4./ZG 26
Messerschmitt Bf 110 E-3, L2+BR, of 7.(F)/LG 2
Messerschmitt Bf 110, 3U+CS, of 8.ZG 26
Messerschmitt Bf 110 E-2, LN+GR, of 1.(Z)/JG 77
Messerschmitt Bf 110 C-3, 3U+XS, of ZG 26
Messerschmitt Bf 110 E-3, 5F+YK, of 2./Aufkl. Gr. 14
Messerschmitt Bf 110 E of Zerstörerstaffel/JG 5
Messerschmitt Bf 110 F-2, S9+RL, of 3./ZG 1
Messerschmitt Bf 110 F-2, S9+RH, of 1./ZG 1
Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-2 of the Gruppenstab of II./ZG 1
Messerschmitt Bf 110, ‘White 5’, of I./ZG 26
Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-2, M8+UH, of 1./ZG 76
Messerschmitt Bf 110 C-1, SF+AM, of II./ZG 101

Included in the text are also a large number of first hand accounts from the men who took part in these missions.
A number of shorter articles (a few pages each) are also included such as one on the 21 cm Werfergranate Mortar, one on Wolfgang Schenk and one with short biographies on some of the Knights Cross holders among these pilots.

I would have liked to see more details on things such as the tactics and training of these units and how it developed during the war, but considering that this volume is only 96 pages space is probably to limited for detailed studies on the many smaller aspects.
If you are interested in the Bf 110 equipped Zerstörer units, especially if you are looking for a lot of good photos, I recommend this book, it is of the same quality as the rest of this series.
