review-4

This book is a complement to Ken Merrick’s “Luftwaffe Camouflage and Markings 1933-1945”, volume 1 and 2. These books cover, as the titles revels, the complex area of camouflage and markings of Luftwaffe aircrafts. I therefore heartily recommend getting Merrick’s other books before purchasing this book. In other cases, this book can be difficult to read and understand for a person with no prior experience of this area.

The book is divided into nine chapters:
- Day Fighters
- Night Fighters
- Ground-Attack Aircraft
- Bomber Aircraft
- Maritime Aircraft
- Reconnaissance Aircraft
- Civil, Commercial and Military Aircraft
- Training, Liaison and Light Aircraft
- Instruments and Cockpit Interiors

The focal point of this book is of course the great photographical material. There is over 300 photos and illustrations in this book, all of them accompanied by a descriptive and informative text containing information about the planes and their markings. The designations in the text is sometimes complex and could be hard to understand without the help of Merrick’s first books.

The last chapter, Instruments and Cockpit Interiors, could be regarded as a great bonus material. It contains 35 photos and illustration of different cockpit interiors. This material may prove to be of special interest to model builders. The book also contains two great pages with corrections and additions to Merrick’s two first books.

In conclusion, this book contains a very good photographic reference material. It’s therefore recommended for both Luftwaffe/aviation enthusiasts and model builders.
