Formed in January 1945 from the Marineschützenbrigade Nord. It was employed in the east of the Reich under Heeresgruppe Weichsel. In February/March 1945 it was positioned between Bad Freienwalde and Schwedt at a bridgehead by Zehden, then participated in defensive battles at the bridgeheads at Altdamm and Greifenhagen. The Division then retreated across the Oder and was positioned on the west bank of the river on the road Tantow-Greifenhagen and the southern edge of Stettin. In April/May it was involved in the defensive battles at the crossing of the Oder east from Angermünde-Oderberg-Eberswalde, stopping over Lychen in the area of Fürstenberg. The Division retreated in Kampfgruppen in the area of Prenzlau-Boitzenburg and what was left of it was employed at Neustrelitz. At the wars end the Division was able to cross the demarcation line and surrender to the Americans. From March 1945 the Division and its subordinate Regiments were controlled by Heer officers.
