Formed in June 1940, the Abteilung was partially motorised. It was formed in Breda in the Province of North Brabant in The Netherlands, then to Terschelling in the Province of Friesland in The Netherlands and finally in November 1940 it was stationed in Brest in Brittany, France. The Abteilung was subordinate to the Seekommandant Brest, then from December 1940 to the 24. Marineflakregiment/III. Marineflakbrigade.
