Formed in Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein in April 1942. In May 1942 the Abteilung was shifted to France under the 20. Marineflakregiment, then the IV. Marineflakbrigade. The Abteilungsstab and most of the Abteilung was stationed on the island of Belle Île, off the coast of Brittany. Another section of the Abteilung was stationed on the island of Groix, also off the coast of Brittany. In the autumn of 1944 most of the Abteilung (save for a fixed Batterie) was moved to the mainland at Lorient. The 4. Batterie had already moved to Granville in Normandy in 1942 and remained subordinate to the Abteilung for troop services.
