Formed on Île de Ré, an island off the French Atlantic coast near La Rochelle in April 1942. It was subordinate to Seekommandant Loire. In August 1944 the Abteilungsstab along with a section of the Abteilung were moved off the island to St. Nazaire and was used by the Heer in land battles. Only fixed artillery units remained on the islands and Abteilung was replenished with crew members of the Sperrbrechers 36.
