Formed on the island of Île de Noirmoutier off the Atlantic Coast in the Pays de la Loire Region of France in April 1942. In the spring of 1943 2 Kompanien of the Abteilung were moved to the island of Île d'Yeu. The Abteilung was subordinate to Seekommandant Loire but tactically subordinate to the Heer. In August 1944 it became part of Festung La Rochelle and used by the Heer in land fighting where it was mostly destroyed. Only fixed artillery units remained on the islands.
