Formed in Pillau in East Prussia in February 1941, the Abteilung was then moved to Plovdiv in Bulgaria to prepare. In July 1941 it was moved to Crete where it became subordinate to the Seekommandant Kreta, then from October 1944 to Festen Platzes Kreta.
