Formed on 15 November 1943 and employed throughout the war in the North Sea under the 5. Sicherungsdivision.

After the war the Flotilla was used with the Deutscher Minenräumdienst (DMRL, the German Mine Sweeping Administration, GMSA; Kriegsmarine vessels under Allied control used for mine sweeping duties 1945-1948) for mine clearing in the North Sea & the Baltic. In 1949 the Flotilla was transferred to American control, then from 1957 was controlled by the Bundesmarine.
