Active from the start of the war (formed in 1935 from the 1. Schnellboothalbflottille) and was placed at Gotenhafen for the Polish Campaign. Afterwards it was moved to the North Sea & Norwegian waters for use in Operation Weserübung as Kriegsschiffgruppe 3. It was then employed on the Dutch coast, English Channel & French coast. In May 1941 it was moved back to the Baltic Sea for employment in Finnenbusen. In Spring 1942 the Flotilla was moved to the Black Sea and was in employment there until October 1944. With the evacuation of the south-east area the Flotilla lost all boats. At the end of 1944 it was moved back to the Baltic Sea and re-stocked with boats for employment in the eastern area of the Baltic.
