Formed in September 1943 and subordinate to Seekommandant italienische Riviera. For a short time the Hafenkommandant Livorno was the Abschnittskommandant until Viareggio was removed from the control of Abschnitt La Spezia. From then the Hafenkommandant Viareggio was was Abschnittskommandant. It controlled the area from the Arno, then Abetone (north of Viareggio) to San Stefano. With the dissolution of the adjoining Abschnitt Civita Vecchia in the south (this Abschnitt was so short-lived a staff was not even installed) the command area in the south was extended to the main battle line. With the retreat of the German front the majority of the Abschnitt area was gradually lost. In August 1944 the command was dissolved.
