Formed in September 1939 and subordinate to Küstenbefehlshaber Nordfriesland. The area of control ranged from Eider in the north to Eiderfähre - Breiholzkanal - Itzehoe in the east, to Pagensand in the south and west of the Elbe to the Hadelner Kanal and the line Oste - Abbenfleth. In the autumn of 1944 the northern section of command was ceded to the newly formed Abschnitt Friedrichsort. From February 1941 it became subordinate to Küstenbefehlshaber Deutsche Bucht, then from November 1944 to Seekommandant Elbe-Weser. It was designated a Festungskommandant in April 1945.
