The Freikorps Schleswig-Holstein was formed on 12 February 1919 in Rendsburg from Infanterie Regiment 85. It was used as a guard unit in Berlin and in July it fought against the Red forces in Hamburg.

It was disbanded in August 1919 and used to form a harbour protection unit in Hamburg.
