Ordered formed summer 1942 with HQ in Vinkovci in south Slavonia using Volksdeutsche of birth year 1912 and older. By 14 September it was up to strength with 30 officers, 80 NCOs and 1,300 men. The Battalion’s mission was to secure and protect the main railway line between Vinkovci and Osijek and to the east and west of Vinkovci. On the previously noted date, 14 September 1942, the decision was made to greatly expand the railway security organization in the Independent State of Croatia and the Battalion was divided into three parts and renamed XI, XII and XIII Railway Security Battalions, which then became part of the Croatian armed forces and no longer had any administrative or tactical connection to the Croatian Volksdeutsche organization. For further information on these three battalions see under Domobran Railway Security Battalions. (1)
