Applicants first received 8 months of basic military and enlisted medical specialty training at the Sanitäts-Ers.-u.Ausb.Abt. at Bad Saalow near Berlin, promoted to Fahnenjunker-Gefreiten (Volunteer Officer Candidate Acting Corporal) on completion, and then sent to the Medical Academy to begin 10 semesters of study with instruction taking place in Berlin, Würzburg or Prague.
