The Polizei-Regiment Mitte was formed in June 1941 and was used to form SS-Polizei-Regiment 13 in July 1942.

An armored car unit was attached to the regiment, equipped in part with Swedish made Landsverk L-181 armored cards that had been captured in the Netherlands.
