The SS-Polizei Regiment 6 was formed in July 1942. It was used in anti-partisan operations on the Eastern front and two of its battalions were destroyed in January 1943. The surviving battalion was attached to 213. Sicherungs-Division in April 1943.

A new SS-Polizei Regiment 6 was raised in October 1944 in Hungary. It was fighting with Panzergrenadier-Division Brandenburg on the Hungarian-Croatian border in November 1944 before being caught in the Budapest pocket. The surviving elements surrendered to the Red Army in February 1945.
