The Polizei-Regiment 2 was formed in 1939 from Landespolizei Danzig. It fought in the invasion of Poland as part of Brigade Eberhardt and was transferred into the Heer in 18 October 1939 as Infanterie-Regiment 244 of 60. Infanterie-Division.

The SS-Polizei Regiment 2 was formed in July 1942 in Tilsit. It was attached to Heeresgruppe Mitte and was used for anti-partisan activities on the Eastern front. It suffered heavy losses in the fighting and was withdrawn from the front in the autumn of 1944.
It was sent to the Western front in December 1944.
