UNIT HISTORY:
Dec.1942..... Unit originally intended to be sent to North Afrika and was even outfitted with tropical uniforms.
24 Dec.1942..... Alerted for transfer to the Eastern Front.
Late Dec.1942..... After arriving in the Kalmucken Steppes area of southern Russia the unit was offloaded at Sailz and immediately thrown into action as a part of the forces gathered to assist the breakout of 6. Armee’s encirclement at Stalingrad. The attempt failed due to the fact that 6. Armee had been forbidden to breakout.
19 Feb.1943..... Stu.Gesch.Abt.232 successfully attacked Molodejkoje.
Mar.1943..... Unit participated in the bitter defensive battles in the Mius-Donez area for most of the month.
4 to 20 Jul.1943..... Stu.Gesch.Abt.232 assigned to 1. Panzerarmee, Heeresgruppe Sud, and was used as Heeresgruppe Sud’s “fire brigade” in attempting to halt the Soviet advances in the central Don River area of operations.
25 Aug.1943..... Unit attached to XXXXII. Armeekorps, 8. Armee, Heeresgruppe Sud.
Fall 1943..... The almost decimated Stu.Gesch.Abt.232 was ordered back to Patschkau for rebuilding and reorganization. It was then immediately sent back to the fighting on the Eastern Front.

UNIT HISTORY:
31 Dec.1942..... Stu.Gesch.Abt.242 was reorganized and fitted for service in North Afrika but only the 1.Bttr./Stu.Gesch.Abt.242 actually was sent to Heeresgruppe Afrika, where it was renamed Sturmgeschütz-Batterie 90. The rest of Stu.Gesch.Abt.242 gave up its tropical gear and headed for the Don River region of the Eastern Front where it was eventually shattered in the vicinity of Stalingrad.
22 to 27 Feb.1943..... The remaining remnants of the unit were returned to Jüterbog Truppenübungsplatz, Wehrkreis III, to be completely rebuilt as a new unit.
12 Mar.1943..... Unit reorganized and refitted for tropical duties in North Afrika.
11 May 1943..... 1.Bttr./Stu.Gesch.Bde.242 was captured by the British while fighting in North Afrika.
May 1943..... Stu.Gesch.Abt.242 transferred to Italy.
