The Formation of the 22. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division began in 1943 under Heeresgruppe Nord in northern Russia from Luftwaffen-Division Meindl. However, formation was cancelled almost immediately with the established units being assigned to the 21. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division, disbanded or allocated as Heerestruppen.
