The 18. Volksgrenadier-Division was formed from the partially formed 571. Volksgrenadier-Division in Denmark in September 1944, it also included excess Kriegsmarine personnel and surviving elements from 18. Luftwaffe-Feld-Division.
It saw action in France before taking part in the fighting in the Ardennes where it suffered heavy losses, it continued fighting on the western front until the end of the war.
