The 1. Skijäger-Division was formed when 1. Skijäger-Brigade was upgraded to a division in June 1944 with the addition of elements from 52. Infanterie-Division. It fought south of Witebsk, retreating through Turow, Wojslawice and Opatow to Oberschlesien where it suffered heavy losses.
It surrendered in the Tabor-Pisek area at the end of the war, some elements of it managed to surrender to the US rather than Soviet forces, but they were handed over to the Soviets by the US.

Insignia

In the fall of 1944 1. Skijäger-Brigade was granted to a special Skijäger cap badge consisting of the regular Jäger badge (three oak leaves and an acorn) with the addition of a ski on top of the leaves.
