The 260. Infanterie-Division was formed in August 1939 as part of the 4th welle (wave) in Wehrkreis V, Stuttgart. It took part in the operations in the west, advancing from the Eifel through Luxembourg and Belgium into France.
It later fought on the Eastern front, including the offensive against Moscow. It withdrew along with the rest of the Wehrmacht following the large counter offensives by the Red Army before being caught and destroyed in the Minsk pocket with the surviving elements being used to form Korps-Abteilung G.
