The 30. Infanterie-Division was formed 1 October 1936 in Lübeck. It was mobilized in August 1939 as part of the 1. Welle (wave).

Known war crimes

On 9 September 1939 during the invasion of Poland a large number of civilians were forced into a barn at Swoboda that was set on fire and those trying to escape were killed. This atrocity happened in the area controlled by the 30. Infanterie-Division. (2)
