The Armeeabteilung Samland was formed on 9 February 1945 from the XXVIII. Armeekorps for operations in Samland. Attacking in conjunction with the besieged defenders of Königsberg, Armeeabteiluing Samland opened a relief corridor to the city on 20 February 1945. The unit reverted to the designation XXVIII. Armeekorps on 26 February 1945.
