The 8. Cavalry Division was ordered to covert into a motorized division November 1942, however the fighting at Stalingrad stopped these plans.
In July 1944 it began coverting to an armored division, the 2. Armored Division, however this was not completed when Romania deserted the axis camp late August 1944.
All the tanks of the armored regiment (4. Armored Rosiori Regiment) was crewed by Germans (who were sent to Romania to train the troops) and they simply took the tanks and used them to cover the retreat of the German forces from Romania.
