The SS-Sturmbann Elbe (SS-Wachsturmbann II Elbe) was formed in March 1935 from parts of SS-Sonderkommando 3 in Dresden. It was used to guard first the concentration camp at Bad Sulza and later Weimar-Buchenwald.
It merged with SS-Sturmbann Sachsen and was upgraded to regimental size on 1 July 1937 and redesignated SS-Totenkopf-Standarte 3 Thüringen.

A cuff title with the text "Elbe" was authorized for this unit.
