The SS-Jagdverband Ost was formed as SS-Jäger-Bataillon Ost from the Brandenburg unit Streifkorps Einsatzgruppe Baltikum when it was transferred to the Waffen-SS in September 1944.
Men from this unit took part in Operation Brauner Bär, supplying the Ukrainian guerilla movement led by Stefan Bandera.
It later fought the Red Army at Hohensalza (near Posen) were it was almost completly destroyed.

It was soon reformed at fought at Neustrelitz and at Sachsenhausen. A company was attached to Heeresgruppe Mitte and fought in Silesia and Czechoslovakia before being wiped out in May.
