The engineering unit SS-Wehrgeologen-Abteilung (mot) 500 was formed in 1942. In March 1944 it was transferred to Brittany in north-western France where it was used to build coastal defences and preparations for flooding. After refitting in Hengelo in the Netherlands it was transferred to Italy in September where it was stationed in the Veneto and Trentino regions.
