The SS-Grenadier-Regiment 1 Landstorm Nederland was formed in March 1943 as the Landwacht Nederland, a home guard unit in the Netherlands under the control of the main local Nazi party Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging (NSB). In October the NSB lost control of the now renamed Landstorm Nederland and it was transferred into the Waffen-SS.
In September 1944 it was thrown into action at Arnhem. It was upgraded to SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Brigade Landstorm Nederland in November 1944.
