The Waffen-Gebirgs-Brigade der SS (tatarische Nr. 1) was formed when the Waffen-Gebirgsjäger-Regiment der SS (tatarische) was redesignated.
The forming of this unit was delayed due to lack of equipment and the lack of interest from its commander.
It was disbanded December 1944 and its men were transferred to the Osttürkischen Waffen-Verband der SS as SS-Waffengruppe Krim.
