The 1. Alpini Division Taurinense was mobilized in October 1939 and was stationed on the border with France until it took part in the invasion in June 1940. It remained in France until January 1942 when it was sent to Herzegovina were it took part in anti-partisan operations. It surrendered to the German forces in Montenegro in September 1943.

This unit took part in anti-partisan operations in Croatia.
