The 51. Infantry Division Siena was fully mobilized in August 1940 and in September it was sent to Albania. It took part in the invasion of Greece where it suffered heavy losses. In May 1941 it was stationed at the occupation force in the Peleponnese and in September it was transferred to Crete in September. It remained in Crete until the Italian surrender when it was disarmed by the Germans.
