The 48. Infantry Division Taro was mobilized in June 1940 and was sent to Albania where it took part in the invasion of Yugoslavia. It served as an occupation force in Montenegro until July 1941 when it was sent to Croatia to take part in anti-partisan operations. In June 1942 it was returned to Albania but was soon transferred to Italy to rebuild. In November it took part in the invasion of Vichy France.
It was disbanded in September 1943.
