The 47. Infantry Division Bari was mobilized in June 1940 and was sent to Albania taking part in the invasion of Greece. It attacked the island of Corfu supported by a battalion of the San Marco Marine Regiment but after suffering heavy losses it was forced to withdraw. In April 1943 it was transferred to Sardinia where it remained until the Italian surrender.
