The 22. Infantry Division Cacciatori delle Alpi was mobilized in June 1939 and took part in the invasion of France. It was later stationed in Albania, Montenegro, Dalmatia  and finally Slovenia where it surrendered to the German and Croatian forces in September 1943.

This unit took part in anti-partisan operations in Croatia.
